Cool Arts will once again be exhibiting work at the Lake Country ArtWalk. Over 300 artists display their work annually at BC Interior's largest event of its kind. Find out more information, including details about participating artists, children's activities, and a full map of the event here.

Community Art Night

Join us for our FREE monthly community art night.
We provide all art supplies; you just need to bring your imagination! 


KCR Okanagan Volunteer Fair

Saturday, September 21 | 10AM - 2PM
at the: Parkinson Recreation Centre
(1800 Parkinson Way)

Cool Arts will join over 70 local non-profit organizations to let the community know how they can get involved. If you've been thinking about volunteering, this is the time to come down and chat with one of our representatives at the event!

FINA Exhibition Opening

Friday, October 4 | 3:30PM - 4:30PM
at the: FINA Art Gallery
(1148 Research Road, UBCO)

Join Cool Arts in celebrating the opening of our annual exhibition at the FINA Art Gallery. Cool Arts will be showcasing animation club videos, fibre art pieces, and framed works.
The exhibition runs Monday, September 30 - Friday, October 11.

Cool Arts Memberships

Annual memberships for the 2019-2020 year are now available. Memberships are valid from September 1, 2019 - August 31, 2020.

Holding a Cool Arts membership is a convenient and affordable way that you and your family can support the Cool Arts studio. We thank all of our members for their continued support in helping to bring quality art programming to Cool Arts artists!
 

Individual Annual Membership:  $20
Family Annual Membership:  $30

Friendly reminder: all Cool Arts artists must hold valid memberships in order to participate in Cool Arts programming.

The Cool Arts studio will be closed for its summer breaking until September 8.
Fall Semester 2019 classes will begin on Monday, September 9.


If you have not registered for your Fall Semester 2019 classes, please contact Elana at admin@coolarts.ca at your earliest convenience to guarantee your spot.

Volunteer with Cool Arts

Cool Arts is always looking for dedicated volunteers to fill a variety of positions in the studio. If you are interested in joining our amazing team of volunteers, please contact info@coolarts.ca to sign up for one of the upcoming Volunteer Orientation sessions (sessions are approximately 1-hour long):

Shauna Oddleifson works with Cool Arts artist Kassidy Rutledge on a series of printed shirts featuring Kassidy's artwork during the Cool Cats exhibition tour last summer. Shauna is a past president of the Cool Arts Society board and currently sits on both our artistic advisory and fund development committees.

Call for Board Members

Cool Arts is currently accepting expressions of interest from people to join the board for the 2019-2020 year. Our AGM is in October, at which time board duties will commence for incoming board members. Cool Arts is looking for people with expertise (or willingness to learn) in the following areas: event planning, governance, fundraising, human resources, and policy.

If you are interested in sharing your time, passion, and skills on the Cool Arts board, please email board@coolarts.ca introducing yourself.

Family members of Cool Arts artists are enthusiastically welcomed to submit their interest.

RE:RECORD 

at the: Kelowna Community Theatre (1375 Water Street)

This series of re-imagined album art shares the powerfully unique perspectives of artists living with developmental disabilities as inspired by well-known tunes. This exhibition is part of the Artscape program through the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO) and has been supported by Milkcrate Records. Visiting hours are limited, so please be sure to contact the Kelowna Community Theatre before planning your visit.

Stick Figure Fun

From homework doodles to flip books, we’ll be celebrating all the chaos you can cause with five lines and a circle! Join Art Educator Shimshon Obadia as he guides you through an evening of stick-figure fun!

RE:RECORD
 

This exhibition takes a new look at some old music. On display at the Kelowna Community Theatre (1375 Water Street) through July and August, this series of re-imagined album art shares the powerfully unique perspectives of artists living with developmental disabilities as inspired by well known tunes. This exhibition is part of the Artscape program through the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO) and has been supported by Milkcrate Records.

Cool Arts’ exhibition 2 is currently on display at the Rotary Centre for the Arts until the end of August. Don't miss this international celebration of work by artists with developmental disabilities from both Cool Arts and Portland Art & Learning Studios (PALS). This exhibition opened simultaneously in Kelowna and Portland, featuring live-streaming at each studio where visitors could interact with each other from the two locations.

Cool Arts Feature

This spring, Cool Arts welcomed two UBC teacher candidates into the studio as part of their education field experience. During their time with us, they created a video highlighting the great work happening at Cool Arts. We’d like to thank Kate Janus and Stephanie Nagy for all of their enthusiasm and hard work. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors!

Join Cool Arts to listen to records and get your creative groove on. All drawing and painting materials will be supplied.
Optional: bring your own record(s) and we will play it.

Opening Reception

Sunday, June 30 | 12-3 PM

Please join Cool Arts and the Portland Art & Learning Studio, based in Oregon, USA, for a ground-breaking international exhibition of artists with developmental disabilities. The exhibition, curated by local artist Rachel Mercer, will be on display throughout the Rotary Centre for the Arts in July and August, 2019.

Spring Fundraiser Raffle

Tickets are now on sale for our Spring Raffle Fundraiser in studio or by request at info@coolarts.ca.  Each ticket is $5 and gives you a chance to win one of six prize packages. For details about prize packages and restrictions & conflict of interest rules of play, please visit our website.

Raffle tickets will be on sale in the community on the following dates:

Saturday, June 8 & Sunday, June 9 | 10am - 3pm
at Rona - 1711 Springfield Road

Saturday, June 15 | 9am - 11am
at Urban Harvest - 806 Crowley Avenue

Moda Yoga Karma Classes

Moda Yoga has chosen Cool Arts Society as the recipient of their June Karma Classes. Join Karma Classes every Friday at 7:30 pm, with a minimum $5 donation. They recommend arriving 30 minutes early to settle in. Spread the word! 

Current Exhibitions

Art by students from Kelowna Senior Secondary School who attend classes at Cool Arts is on display in the ‘Nice Colours: About Us’ exhibit in the Hallway Gallery outside the Cool Arts Studio until June 13, 2019. Please take a moment to write some words of encouragement to the artists in the journal at the exhibit site.

Reminder to Member Artists

Summer 2019 registration will begin on June 10.

There are two ways to register:

1. Pick up a schedule/registration form in your class on or after June 10 to be filled out and returned no later than June 21.

2. Visit our website calendar on or after June 10 for a full schedule; then email admin@coolarts.ca with your full name and the class or workshops you would like to register for, no later than June 21.

Robo-Illustrations with Brock Gratz 

Thursday, May 23 | 6-8 PM

Join us in the Cool Arts Studio to create 'robo-inspired' illustrations with guest artist Brock Gratz. As always, admission is free and people of all ages and abilities are welcome to join us.
Anime, robot, cartoon, and sci-fi lovers won't want to miss this one!


VegFest Kelowna

Immaculata Regional High School – 1493 K.L.O. Road

Entry by donation with all proceeds going to animal sanctuaries.

Vendors, speakers, workshops, and more will be showcased at this plant-based festival. Stop by the Cool Arts booth where we will be selling original pieces of art.

Featured Art

Join us in celebrating the inspiring and innovative work created by grade 11 & 12 students from Kelowna Senior Secondary School at the Opening Reception of the ‘Nice Colours: About Us’ exhibit: Tuesday, May 7 from 5-7 pm. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

The art will be featured in the Cool Arts Studio’s Hallway Gallery from May 7 – June 13, 2019.
